Madeleine Shaw

When it comes to boosting your glow with both your diet and a well thought out skincare regime, there’s noone better to speak to than the queen of glow herself, qualified nutritional therapist and influencer Madeleine Shaw. As a mother, author and business woman, Sundays are all about taking time to chill, multi-masking, meditating and maybe even a spot of facial massage. The Wind Down

I don’t start winding down until my son is in bed, which is around 7pm. After he goes to sleep, we’ll watch something on Netflix and then it’s my me-time. I’m so lucky that I work for myself and I love my job, so I don’t usually get Sunday blues. I like making time on a Sunday to help plot out my week, so I try to open up my diary, have a look what I have planned and then think about what I’m going to cook that week or the exercise I can realistically fit in. In the evenings I light a calming candle like Aromatherapy Associates Relax Candle. My boyfriend and I try to meditate twice a day together, as soon as we wake up in the morning and then before bed.  At home you’ll nearly always find me in pyjamas and cosy slippers. For me it’s the most indulgent and relaxing thing to have fresh sheets and clean pyjamas, I have a different set for every day of the week – it’s such a treat!

The Routine

Usually my Sundays are very relaxed so I don’t wear much makeup. If I do it will be a tinted moisturiser and a slick of mascara, but my focus is definitely more on my skin. Living in London and travelling on the tube, your skin picks up so much dirt and grime, plus there’s the pollution particles to think of, so I’m very conscious of nurturing my skin. My main aim is to try and combat fine lines or dehydration, but I’d say my skincare regime is quite simple. When it’s time to relax I’ll start by removing my makeup. I start by cleansing my face with a balm like De Mamiel’s Restorative Cleansing Balm and I’ll use a muslin cloth to help physically exfoliate skin. I also double face mask – first with a clay one like Chantecaille’s Detox Clay Mask and then with a hydrating mask like Colbert MD’s Anti-Ageing Brightening Sheet Mask. Then I’ll use a targeted serum. At the moment I’m using Dr Dennis Gross C + Collagen Brighten & Firm Vitamin C Serum to help brighten or for nourishing hydration Darphin’s Hydraskin Intense Moisturizing Serum. Then I’ll moisturise with a hydrating cream like Darphin’s Rose Hydra Nourishing Oil Cream. I lived in Australia when I was younger, and I didn’t really look after my skin properly, or protect it with an SPF while I was there so now I’m very conscious of using SPF daily. I had a scan done recently that shows the sun damage that lurks below the surface of your skin, which was terrifying! Now I wear SPF 30 like Darphin’s Soleil Plaisir Facial SPF 30 all year round and a hat on holiday. On a Sunday, I normally do a bit of micro-needling and then will apply a serum or oil to really let it sink in. I only do this once a week. I love doing a facial massage and love a face oil like Darphin’s Rose Aromatic Care Oil. I will spend three or four minutes really getting my fingers into my skin and needing out tension especially around my jaw. Then I’ll finish by using a facial roller to do a little more massage. When I need a little more TLC I go to Pfeffer Sal, for either micro-dermabrasion or micro-needling, which they can do to a deeper level with longer needles in clinic.

I have balayage on my hair but not very often, only around every six months as I’m trying to keep it healthy. I trim my hair every six weeks and avoid putting heat on it when I can unless I’m filming. I’m all about multi-tasking so one of the best time savers is applying a hair mask while meditating so you’re sorting both at once. I use a protein-based mask like O&M’s The Power Base or to intensely moisturise like Oribe’s Gold Lust Transformative Mask. When I air dry and want to add a little texture I use a detangling spray like O&M’s Know Knott to ease knots and a hair serum like Windle & Moodie’s Shine & Smoothing Oil for condition.

Bedtime

When it comes to sleeping I’m quite disciplined, I don’t keep my phone in my room and my boyfriend and I get into bed early, to give ourselves time to wind down. Having the lights dimmed before sleep really helps get your body into the right mood for sleep. I have blackout blinds but I’m so conscious of light when I’m sleeping so I wear a silk eye mask like Slip’s too. I also sleep on a lovely Slip silk pillowcase, it’s so gorgeous and feels so nice on your skin and stops your hair getting tangled. I usually spritz on a pillow mist like This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray too. On my bedside table I keep a bottle of Byredo’s Vetyver Hand Cream and spend a minute giving my hands a massage before bed. I also keep a De Mamiel Aromatherapy on my bedside table too, I add a few drops to my hands and then inhale deeply a few times.

Monday Morning

My son wakes me up at 6am so I wake up early every day but for as long as I can remember I’ve been more of a morning person and would rather go to sleep early and rise early. I like to achieve a lot of things by midday. I start the day by taking a long shower using a refreshing body wash like Aesop’s Geranium Leaf Body Cleanser and then body brush towards my heart, which is really invigorating. When I’m in the shower, I love saying positive affirmations. Things like: I am good enough, I am loved, and I am healthy. It gives me a real confidence boost. As you’re naked there is a vulnerability to it – you’re totally exposed. Afterwards I’ll apply a body oil like Kora’s Noni Glow. It feels like you’re treating yourself to some real self-care applying it. The only downside is you have to wait for it to sink in before you can get dressed! Then I’ll cycle to nursery with my son, which is a great way to get some fresh air and then when I’m home I’ll do some yoga practise. I usually have a smoothie for breakfast as it’s healthy and quick to make. I throw in frozen blueberries, a handful of greens, spinach, kale, almond milk and protein powder and an ashwagandha supplement. This sets me up nicely for the morning and I feel ready to start the week.
