Together At-Home With Estee Lalonde

Over the past five weeks, various content creators have been sharing how they’ve been passing the time during lockdown – from juggling work and parenting with Lily Pebbles to Sam Chapman’s masterclass in the ultimate smoky eye. This week, Estee Lalonde shares her mood-boosting tips for those who are isolating alone. While Estee has documented her recent ups and downs on Instagram, she has discovered some useful tips for checking in with herself and keeping a positive frame of mind.

Not only has Estee shared these with us, but for those who have failed to master the art of baking banana bread or making Dalgona coffee, you’ll be pleased to know none of the below requires skill in the kitchen. Over to Estee…

Tip 1: Stretch It Out

Every single day without fail I stretch for around 10 to 15 minutes. It’s something I do as soon as I get up, so it’s always done in my pyjamas. I don’t follow a routine, I just try to listen to my body and work on the areas that feel tight. Sometimes I spend the entire stretch trying to open up my hips, other days I’ll stay in child’s pose. Stretching really helps get me going in the morning and I’ve noticed when I don’t do it the entire day feels a lot slower. You don’t need any equipment – if you don’t have a yoga mat, use a towel – and if you want some guidance, I highly recommend Yoga With Adriene, she’s amazing for both beginners and intermediates.

Tip 2: Makeup Will Make You Feel Better

Although it’s minimal, I make sure I apply makeup every day. Both makeup and beauty help to boost my mood and work as a kind of armour throughout the day. I keep my routine simple with the help of By Terry Brightening CC Serum in Sunny Flash to warm up my complexion. You can mix this in with your foundation, but I prefer to wear it alone. I cover any stress blemishes with Nars Soft Matte Concealer and follow with Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil to fill in any patchiness and redefine my brows. I press a little bit of RMS Luminizer in Living onto the tops of my cheekbones, brow bones and the inner corner of my eyes. Last but by no means least, I apply By Terry’s Baume de Rose Lip Care. Even though I’m not going anywhere or seeing anyone, this short routine always makes me feel good.

Tip 3: Lose Yourself In A Good Book

I’ve been reading a lot, I find it really helps to take you outside of your head, especially if you’re living alone and don’t have some at home to talk to. The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben is next on my list to read.

Tip 4: Reach Out

If you’re feeling lonely, reach out to someone, call a friend or FaceTime your family. We’re all in this together and that is definitely something that is giving me some comfort. There are so many ups and downs. Some days can be good, others can be bad, but it’s so important to reach out to people and lean on each other. With everything going on in the world at the moment, it can be hard to wake up in a good mood every morning, but it’s important to listen to yourself and do what feels right in that moment.

Tip 5: Take A Relaxing Bath

Speaking of feeling good, my final tip for improving your mood is to take a bath. I love taking a long, relaxing bath or a hot shower. My favourite bathing product at the moment is Herbivore’s Coconut Milk Bath Soak – it’s like being in a tub of coconut dreams – and the Coco Rose Body Polish. Having things like that to look forward to at the end of the day is super helpful too.
