There may be a slew of indulgences from the holiday season to undo now that the new year has reared its head, but a quick way to appear together is having great hair. Get this right, and the rest will come together with ease. Here, we guide you through some easy new year changes – from the products to use to the food to eat – to give your strands the best start to the year.
What Products Are Right?
A few key staples in your hair repertoire will keep that shine and gloss going for longer.“A primer is my favourite secret weapon. It will detangle meaning less breakage which is key for getting your hair in great condition. To top that, they lightly hydrate, protect and prime everyday” says Collette McGee, National Trainer for Bumble and Bumble and Pro Stylist. “Add a mask into your regime once a week and apply on dry hair for maximum absorption and wash out the next morning. This will replenish lost moisture and lost strength,” explains McGee.
How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?
Washing your hair every 3 days will allow your hair’s natural oils to regulate and encourages a healthy scalp. To continue the good work after you wash try a specially formulated microfibre towel, or as Jen Atkin, celebrity hairstylist and OUAI Brand Founder suggests: “I always suggest my clients dry their hair with an old cotton t-shirt instead of a towel after they shower. Wet strands are much more fragile and prone to breakage, and the harsh fibres of a towel can be too aggressive.” To keep hair looking its best between washes use a dry shampoo, spraying it onto a brush and sweeping from root to tip to cleanse away excess oil and dirt.
What Are The Best Supplements For Hair?
Seek out rich omega oils for hair. “I always recommend my clients eat healthy fats for stronger, shinier hair. Walnuts are rich in omega oils, biotin, vitamin E, and copper which keeps your hair colour looking rich,” advises Jen. Also, look for fulvic acid based supplements to boost thickness and improve the condition of hair and some extra iron always boosts hair growth.
How Can You Keep Your Hair Looking Great For Longer?
“Finding the right texture finishing spray can make all the difference to your hair, no matter what type you have. “I love that just-out-of-the-ocean finish without the dryness, which is why I love the Wave Spray. It’s made with rice protein which means there’s no dryness,” says Jen. “Finally, update your everyday kit and invest in a great brush. “You should also be wary of what kind of brush you use on damp hair. Something with too much tension will stretch the hair too much, which also exposes it to breakage,” she adds.
