Recently launched at Space NK and to great acclaim, Drunk Elephant’s clean, pared back skincare line with its distinctive neon packaging has us all transfixed. Created by mum of four, Tiffany Masterson, to solve her own sensitised skin issues, Drunk Elephant has become a runaway success, not least because of its unique approach to product mixing, otherwise known in Drunk Elephant terms as ‘skincare smoothies’. “Because there are zero silicones, heavy oils or waxes to interfere with absorption, you can mix any Drunk Elephant serum, moisturiser or oil in the palm of your hand and apply them all at the same time,” explains Tiffany. The structures of different skincare ingredients can interfere with each other and that’s what causes pilling – when your skincare or makeup rolls up into little balls as you layer, but with Drunk Elephant this won’t happen.
How To Mix Your Smoothie
“Just as you might tweak your morning smoothie based on energy levels, mood and cravings, you can adjust your skincare smoothie depending on what your skin’s up to,” says Tiffany. If you’re new to the range, try The Littles Kit – which contains seven mini products and is the ideal way to try out smoothies for the first time. Follow our recipes below, and you’ll quickly work out your own bespoke blends too, depending on how your skin is behaving.
When your skin feels dry, tight and parched, deeply hydrate with a skin smoothie that contains plumping sodium hyaluronate — a highly skin compatible form of replenishing hyaluronic acid that is capable of holding 1000 times its own water, and Drunk Elephant’s signature ingredient, omega-rich Virgin Marula Oil. We love this first thing to quench and refresh skin.
If fine lines, wrinkles, dullness and large pores are your concerns, then mix up this skin brightening smoothie which will exfoliate, nourish and brighten with glycolic acid, vitamin C and peptides. Use right before bed to wake up glowing.
If an all-day lit-within glow appeals to you, then wave goodbye to dull, grey skin and start your morning with this skincare smoothie that combines hydrating ingredients with brightening, firming vitamin C.
If your skin feels unbalanced, blemish-laden, overtired and sluggish, then get it back on track with a nourishing smoothie that blends soothing marula oil with skin strengthening peptides.
The quenching blend of sodium hyaluronate and vitamin B5 in B-Hydra makes for good skin plumping, while acid-laden T.L.C Framboos will help revive a sluggish, dull complexion thanks to its exfoliating prowess. If you’re feeling sensitive a few drops of the satiny Marula Oil added into the mix will calm and nourish (that’ll be the inclusion of omega 6 and 9) while Lala is also known as rescue cream thanks to its ability to provide lasting hydration while protecting skin from environmental aggressors.
Blend two pumps of the jelly-textured, makeup-removing Beste Cleanser with one pump of Marula Oil to seal in moisture. Next, add a revitalising pump of C-Firma for a zingy, awakening hit of brightening vitamin C. Leave on for five minutes to allow the actives to penetrate, then gently remove with water.
