Beauty Around The Globe

Women with beautiful skin

We’ve launched countless brands in the UK after finding them in far-flung lands. This week we shine a spotlight on some of our favourite global discoveries . . .

THE AESTHETIC: Hyper-cool for the last few years, the paired down, modern, clean lines of Scandi-chic has heavily influenced taste-makers all over the world, and beauty is no exception.

Straight out of Sweden, Verso offers all the power of retinol with none of the irritation thanks to a unique high-tech blend. Formulated and packaged in Sweden (bar the sheet mask which turns to Korea for its hydrating jelly-like texture), the ultra-modern packaging with reverse number signs, (a play on Verso – the Latin name for reverse), is unisex and will look totally chic in your all white Swedish-inspired bathroom.

Byredo Gypsy Water Eau de Parfum

After graduating from Stockholm Art School, a chance meeting with a perfumer led native Swede Ben Gorham to create the now world-renowned fragrance brand, Byredo. A trip to his mother’s hometown in India with the rich aromas of spices and incense inspired his first perfume collection. Combined with the clean lines of the elegant Scandinavian aesthetic, Byredo’s unusual juxtaposition wins stylish fans all over the world.

Handmade and bottled in Denmark, ZarkoPerfume’s unique scents are inspired by epic Nordic landscapes. As Denmark’s only practicing perfumer, founder Zarko Ahlmann Pavlov explains “my vision is to create fragrances that encapsulate Scandinavia, and my approach is to fuse classic French perfumery with stringent, Nordic molecular science.” Try the pheromone-based fresh, earthy and responsive Molecule 234.38 Eau de Parfum which works with the skin to evolve throughout the day.

THE AESTHETIC: At opposite ends of the spectrum in diverse Central Europe you’ll find direct-from-the-spa holistic skin and body treatment collections, alongside high-tech, scientifically formulated anti-ageing skincare.

Famous for over 2000 years, the mineral-rich, healing waters of the Hungarian capital Budapest are closer to the Earth’s core than anywhere else. Thus, the water absorbs beneficial minerals more effectively, and has a profoundly revitalising effect on the skin. When Omorovicza founders Stephen and Margaret de Heinrich Omorovicza discovered the healing powers of the ancient spas it led them to create their eponymous skincare brand, falling in love and marrying along the way.

The resulting award-winning skincare collection is infused with the powerful Hungarian waters and combines the latest technology with a luxurious spa feel. Try the Moor mud-infused Thermal Cleansing Balm for a taste of the glamorous heritage spa at home.

Dr Barbara Sturm

No less effective but from a very different European background comes the skincare line from Dr Barbara Sturm. An aesthetics doctor with a world-renowned reputation for non-surgical anti-ageing treatments, Dr Barbara Sturm runs two highly successful clinics in Germany. With many years of research to draw on, her eponymous skincare collection provides an uncomplicated, powerful regime that helps to nourish, hydrate, protect and regenerate the complexion.

We love the smoothing, nourishing Face Cream which contains Dr Barbara Sturm’s unique discovery – purslane, which helps to stimulate skin’s own youth enzymes known as telomeres.

Susanne Kaufmann

Straight from the spa and into our homes with incredible aromas and natural extracts comes Susanne Kaufmann’s holistic collection of skin and body care. Susanne grew up in the Bregenzer Forest – a valley in the Austrian Alps, among nature and a small community of people with a centuries-old knowledge of the healing properties of the natural world. Her skin and body collection began at the beautiful Spa Bezau in collaboration with a team of pharmacists and dermatologists, and has developed a cult following across the globe.

THE AESTHETIC: In sun-drenched Australia a health conscious approach to beauty puts wellness at its heart. Embodying a fresh, natural, beachy look with glowing skin and a big smile.

The Beauty Chef

The first beauty brand in Australia to focus on cultivating good gut health for beautiful skin, The Beauty Chef launched to great acclaim in 2009. Created by pioneer Carla Oates who believes that beauty begins in the gut, The Beauty Chef offers a collection of supplements created to give skin everything it needs for that naturally glowing, healthy Australian vibe. We love Glow Inner Beauty Powder – a bio-fermented probiotic powder which provides a dose of 24 organic skin-loving superfoods. The easily digested, super-charged nutrients are absorbed quickly and effectively to help promote collagen synthesis for more radiant skin.
